Varennes: The Happiest City in 2019
The LHI (Leger Happiness Index) unveiled its first ranking of the happiest cities and the City of Varennes distinguishes itself with an average LHI of 79.27.
The City of Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures in the Québec City suburbs ranks a close second with an average LHI of 79.16, followed by Candiac in 3rd position with an LHI of 78.35. Bear in mind that the average Québec LHI is 75.29.
The city of Varennes stands out on several happiness factors and has the best results for sensitivity to the environment, civility and authenticity (acting according to your values and convictions).
The City of de Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures also records very good results overall. Citizens in this municipality are among those most satisfied with their financial situation. They are also those who are the least afraid of aging.
This ranking is the first to be released since 2014. It is based on a sample of 36,231 respondents and collection took place between November 20, 2018 and January 21, 2019. The first release of this ranking dates to 2007 and had then crowned Repentigny as the happiest city, followed by Rouyn-Noranda and Drummondville.
A total of 50 cities are in the 2019 version of the ranking. Here is the list of these cities, as well as their respective position and corresponding LHI. Thirty cities obtain an LHI above the national average, while twenty others obtain a lower average. A difference of 7.07 points separate the LHI of the happiest city from the unhappiest.
It is possible for each of the municipalities in this ranking to obtain complete results according to the 25 factors that determine happiness.
