If a woman were a province, she'd be New Brunswick!

If a Woman Were a Province, She'd Be New Brunswick!

At the very least, it's a lighthearted observation that one might be tempted to make because the number of similarities between the two is striking. Both have profiles that are decidedly more humane and sensitive as well as being more prone to reflection than action. They're both in touch with their emotions and show greater attachment to certain traditional values.

New Brunswickers, just like women, have a certain amount of nostalgia for the past. Moreover, many of them consider that people were happier in the past and they are not overly enthused by what the future may hold. They find it more difficult to accept life today as it is, appear more concerned about the future, and are more apprehensive about technological change. On the other hand, many more of them also state that they are living the lives that they dreamed of.

In both cases, their scores for the 12 happiness influenced factors are systematically higher than the average. Women gave higher scores to 11 of the 12 factors than did men, whereas New Brunswick rated 10 of the factors higher than all the other provinces.

Of course, there are distinctions. For example, New Brunswickers do not place as much importance on the quality of their purchases as women do. On the other hand, no other province has many similarities as these two groups.

Time and additional data gathered by the RHI over the next few months may enable us to confirm or set aside this picture. But, for the time being ...

So, if New Brunswick is a woman, which province would be a man?
